Melms in Seasonal Palette at International Quilt Festival

The SAQA special exhibit 'Seasonal Palette' will be on display at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX, November 1-4. Diane Melms was selected as one of 32 artists to create a piece for this show. Her artwork entitled 'Behold' was made to express Autumn, that brief interlude as glorious colors signal the change of seasons. She has documented the process for creating this piece on her blog.

All Alaska Juried Art Exhibition XXXIV Selects Melms and Shell

'Glacier Bay' - Diane Melms
'Glacier Bay' by Diane Melms and 'Birch Wood Glimmer' by Maria Shell have been selected to be included in the All Alaska Juried Art Exhibition XXXIV at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center Oct. 5 - Feb. 3, 2013.

For more than 30 years, All Alaska Juried has recognized the unique contributions Alaska artists are making to the world of contemporary art. The exhibition also encourages Alaska artists to create new work and showcases the finest art being produced in the state. This highly competitive exhibition organized by the Anchorage Museum drew 479 submissions by 140 Alaska artists. Massachusetts-based juror Susan Cross selected 40 artworks by 27 different artists for the exhibition, which opens Oct. 5 and runs through February 3, 2013.

Gail Ramsay at Kaladi Brothers



Gail Ramsay has quilts up at the Kaladi Brothers Coffee Cafe (pictured above) on Tudor near the Muldoon Road Curve.  Congratulations, Gail!  If you are lucky enough to live in Anchorage, stop by for a look.  The exhibit will be hanging through November 4.

Sally Troxell Recieves Rasmusson Purchase Award

The Baranof Museum, in Kodiak, AK, has received a grant from the Rasmusson Foundation to purchase four of Sally Troxell's quilts.  Please go have a look at the purchased work posted on Sally's blog.  There will be a show in conjunction with the Kodiak Art Council's annual Art Walk, on August 31st, from 4-7pm at the museum.  In addition to the four quilts purchased by the museum,  there will be 15 of Sally's other quilts available to view and purchase.  Congratulations, Sally!

Rasmuson Purchase Award for Susan Christensen

The Clausen Museum in Petersburg, Alaska has purchased two of Susan Christensen's recent textile paintings for their permanent collection.  Money for the annual art acquisition program comes from the Rasmuson Foundation.  This is Christensen's second Rasmuson purchase award by the small museum, who selected her art quilt 'Mathew 24' in 2005.

Nancy Dobson' Quilt Wins Best in Show

Two of Nancy Dobson's amazing art quilts were accepted into the Infinity Gallery Fiber Arts Show 2012.  Glacier Study #1: Crevasse and Fluvial Force.  Fluvial Force won Best in Show.  Congratulations, Nancy!
